New York’s 21 Club Closes to Fix Flood Damage
The tony 21 Club in midtown Manhattan has been closed for renovations following a flood.
The restaurant was damaged in early January after broken pipes set off fire sprinklers which sent gallons of water gushing throughout the clubby interior.
The general manager told The New York Times that part of its 300-piece collection of paintings, drawings and photographs worth $3 million were also damaged.
The club is expected to stay closed until at least March.
The restaurant has often been a setting for celebrities and the city’s power elite.
During his transition, then President-elect Donald Trump skipped protocol and made an unannounced dinner break, walking into the club to applause from fellow diners.
